How did I end up here?

Born into it, would be fitting. Even if it wasn’t always clear whether I would end up here, I naturally played very early on and developed a certain basic inclination. In the end, the great people in the gaming scene convinced me to get fully involved and take over the family business.

I can’t think of a better thing to do and it’s good to know that we’re certainly not doing the worst thing for humanity by encouraging them to play.

Wishes for the future:

That we can do our part as role models for a better society. That we get back into calmer waters together and that more people play together.

Hobbies: concerts, bouldering, biking and bantering. And of course, I like to play games, whether analog or digital, I’m a nerd.
Music: Loud, fast and incomprehensible or chants with a focus on content. Preferably a mixture of both.

How did I end up here?
2016 with the LH9119 from Cologne to Munich, after I sold games at the store at SPIEL in Essen. Games had been one of my hobbies again for a while and I find the whole interaction, even across publishers, very exciting. So on the way back I took the initiative to ask for a vacancy. A bit of vitamin B here and there and I’ve been a permanent member of the team since 2017, YEAH!

Why did I end up here?
I love to eat and the culinary cuisine at the publishing house is excellent!

Hobbies: Sport (fitness and yoga) for balance, reading = expansion of the mind, dreaming in another world, hiking – on new paths – clearing my head
Music: everything that is beautiful … I love dancing

How did I end up here?
Simply applied and got the main prize 😊

Why – life is a game.

Future: even more fun!

I really enjoy being out and about in nature (element: earth)

I like swimming and try to keep fit through sport (element: water)

I love yoga (element: air: breathe in – breathe out – ignore 😊)

I run over fire once a year (element: fire)

Hobbies: Being out and about with friends – either at festivals & concerts, painting, cooking, watching (and analysing) series, … and of course gaming, whether analogue or digital.
Music: Rock & metal, but also hip hop.The main thing is to get a good mosh pit going!

How did I end up here?

I originally studied film and media culture research. I’ve always enjoyed everything to do with graphics and design, so I worked in this field alongside my studies.

During an internship at a children’s book publisher, I realised that I liked working in publishing and that I was in very good hands at the interface between graphics and editing. Because I love playing games, I had the idea of trying my hand at a board game publisher. So I applied at random. I had to be very persistent, but in the end it worked out – I’ve been part of the team ever since and feel very comfortable at HiG.

Wishes for the future?

I think I just want to get even better at what I do. It’s always fun to learn new things and develop further. And to network better in the industry

Hobbies: writing, reading, hiking, HEMA, history and stories and, of course, painting and drawing. If you turn your hobby into a profession, you need more hobbies!

Music: Metal, medieval, classical and instrumental. As long as it sends me on a journey in my mind.

How did I end up here?

I sent in my portfolio on the off chance and probably got the timing right. I must have convinced the HiG team with a few test tiles for Carcassonne.

Or maybe I’m just dreaming the whole thing. Please don’t wake me up.

Why did I end up here?

A few years ago I wanted to send a portfolio to HiG and illustrate games. But I didn’t dare back then. When I was looking for new work at the end of 2019, I came across HiG again at a game night. This time I managed to convince myself and sent in my portfolio. Today I’m super happy about it. Sometimes you just have to do it!

Wishes for the future?

Illustrating a game of the year would be cool.

How did I end up here?

I’m Elmar Quiring and I haven’t found half of my life half as wild as I’d like to and I don’t regret half as much as I should. That was probably one of the reasons why I stayed at Hans im Glück after my internship as part of my studies, where I have since enriched the editorial team with a combination of guile and hard-to-digest expertise.
For example, I think the opinion that computers are superior to us in terms of intelligence is subjective.

In my private life, I enjoy writing stories, inventing worlds, editing videos, making music and playing board games, especially Nintendo.

P.S: I’ve never been to Denmark.

Hobbies: Playing board games, trying out new sports, gardening
Music: I mostly just listen to podcasts, preferably those from Die Zeit.

How did I end up here?

I did my compulsory university internship at Hans im Glück. Somehow I stayed there.

Why did I end up here?
Because I find board games interesting and wanted to learn more about them.

Wishes for the future?
I would like to do a doctorate in design science and also look at board games from a scientific perspective.

That’s what I like to do:

Look up at the night sky and lose track of time and space. Soaking up everything to do with whisk(e)y. Experience nature, enjoy freedom. Following and cheering on my home club, SC Freiburg. Playing and gambling until my eyes close. Running around, playing and doing sports with my children. Purring with my cat. Listening to good music and podcasts, reading good books and drinking good wine. Juggling, writing poetry, spinning ideas. Travelling with my tent and rediscovering the world with friends.

How did I end up here?

After 13 years as a member of the editorial team at Zoch, I wanted to try out the Hans im Glück range. Now I’m reshuffling the Carcassonne tiles and dicing up the online shop. I’ve got some pretty good cards so far and hopefully a few more aces up my sleeve.

Playing football and squash, motorbike riding, (very surprisingly) board games, cooking

Personal goals:
When I move, I want to be able to pack everything in a van. #nounnecessary possessions

Wish for the future:
The stuffy standard, wife, kids and stuff. Oh yes, and maybe that we don’t make the world completely uninhabitable.

My hobbies: I like jogging and often do a few laps on my bike in summer. Hiking and squash. I’m a very active person, I have to get out once a day.
Music: Almost everything from A for Alpha Blondy to Z for Zaz. Except this new-fangled pop music.

How did I end up here?
When I was looking for a new challenge, I was lucky – Hans im Glück.
